My journey into acting

Divian Ladwa is a professional actor who has worked in TV, Film, Theatre and Radio. He wanted to be an actor from a very young age but never had the opportunities when growing up.

During his A-levels, his teacher Mrs Burke suggested he join Rambert's 75th anniversary workshop that led to a show. Aside from performing devised plays with his friends, Ladwa's first on stage appearence was at Sadler's Wells for the world renown dance company.

After leaving secondary school, Divian Ladwa found acting classes wherever the bus could take him. These included drop-ins at The Precinct Theatre (in Islington), Miesner Technique (in Chalk Farm) and The City Lit (in Holborn) where he was able to study a variety of drama courses as well as dance and voice classes. His intention was to be accepted by a drama school.

One of his first acting coaches at The City Lit was Mark Phoenix who invited Divian along to Fluxx Improvised Theatre. Quickly becoming a member of the improvisational theatre company, he began working on formats with the other 'fluxxers' and performing improvised plays.

Whilst attending drop-ins at Reima Baker's Precinct Theatre, Reima sent Divian to his first professional audition, meeting Kristine Landon-Smith and Sudha Buchar of Tamasha Theatre Company. He secured a part in the Herald Award winning musical STRICTLY DANDIA that premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival. Having been unsuccesful in drama school auditions, it was with Fluxx and Tamasha, where he gained the chances and experiences he so desperately seeked.

He was soon seen by Greg Loftin for a feature film called SAXON and was cast along side Sean Harris. The movie was selected at various festivals including Edinburgh Film Festival and went on to win Best Film at the European Independent Film Festival.

A personal favourite production was the CHILD OF THE DIVIDE, winner of the Time Out Critic Choice. Divian performed the lead role of Pali, a boy left behind by his parents in the partition era of India and Pakistan. The play performed in New York's Queen's Theatre, LA's Nate Holden Performing Arts Theatre and London's Polka Theatre.

This was followed by playing various roles in radio dramas including GIFTED, a winner of the Mental Health Award. He later became a finalist for BBC Radio's Norman Beaton Fellowship.

He has gone from performing theatre plays in schools, prisons and old homes to starring in Oscar nominated movies with Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara and major motion pictures for Disney's Marvel Universe.
